Introducing the Encompass eTAG™ Application
Bringing on a new client is always an exciting journey. At Toshiba, we understand that the first 90 days are critical. It’s during this time that trust is built, expectations are aligned, and real value is delivered. For this reason, we’ve made it our mission to simplify the onboarding process and help clients start strong—quickly and efficiently.
Recently, I received my first patient award, which was a proud moment for me. More importantly, it reminded me how impactful our work truly is. That recognition belongs to the entire team, whose drive to improve the client experience continues to shape how we serve.
A history of hands-on tagging
Over the years, I’ve manually tagged and inventoried hundreds of thousands of devices. While it’s essential work, it’s also time-consuming and labor-intensive. As our client base grew, so did the need for a more efficient and scalable solution.
Then everything changed. The COVID-19 pandemic forced all of us to rethink how we operate—especially when it came to onsite processes. During a team meeting, my colleague Scott Robinson made a passing comment that stuck with me:
“I wish there was a way to inventory equipment without needing so many people onsite.”
That simple wish became our challenge—and our opportunity to innovate.
Introducing the Encompass eTAG™ application
In response, we developed the Encompass eTAG™ application, a tool designed to transform the onboarding process. With it, we eliminated the need for traditional onsite tagging and manual registration. Instead, we created a solution that brings devices online faster, with less effort, and far fewer disruptions.
Here’s how it works:
Inventory and tagging
Toshiba asset tags can be shipped directly to your location, along with clear instructions for placing them on your networked devices.QR code registration
Using a mobile phone or desktop, users simply scan the QR code to register each device—no technical expertise needed.Instant service enablement
Once the device is registered, it’s automatically brought online and connected to Toshiba services.
The benefits of Encompass eTAG™
Whether you’re onboarding five devices or five thousand, the benefits of Encompass eTAG™ are clear. Here’s what you can expect:
Streamlined IT operations
Instead of manually tagging and tracking assets onsite, IT teams can now use a mobile-first registration process. As a result, device onboarding becomes much faster and less resource-heavy.Reduced workplace disruptions
Employees can register devices when it’s convenient for them. Consequently, there’s no need to interrupt daily workflows with long inventory sessions.Enhanced asset visibility
With real-time data available immediately, IT teams can better track devices, forecast supply needs, and schedule services with greater accuracy.Simplified fleet management
All registered assets are visible in a centralized dashboard. Therefore, it’s easier to monitor performance, manage updates, and ensure that nothing falls through the cracks.Accelerated change management
eTAG enhances and simplifies the change management process for clients, allowing them to make immediate updates to locations and asset status. As a result, project management becomes easier, and the entire onboarding timeline is dramatically reduced.
Real-world success stories
Fortunately, several of our most forward-thinking clients were willing to test the Encompass eTAG™ application early on. Their success confirmed what we already believed: onboarding doesn’t have to be difficult.
In 2024 and 2025, we used this solution to tag and inventory thousands of devices. What once took weeks to complete on-site was now done in a fraction of the time—with minimal disruption and maximum impact.
Ready to rethink onboarding?
At Toshiba, we believe client onboarding should be seamless—not stressful. If you’re not yet a customer, this is the perfect time to see how we can support your IT operations from day one.
And just to leave you with a little teaser…
Why have physical tags at all? 😉
More innovations are on the way. Stay tuned.
